VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- It wasn't exactly an offensive explosion for the struggling Bears, but it was nonetheless a win.
Alfredo Marte scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning and T.J. Hose, Bryan Woodall and Jordan Meaker combined to scatter eight hits and strand 15 baserunners as Yakima beat Vancouver 2-1 on Tuesday night before 2,548 at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The victory snapped a season-high five-game losing streak and gave the Bears (13-22) their first win of a five-game series, which concludes Thursday.
Yakima started the eighth against Trey Barham, the third Vancouver pitcher, with Marte drawing his second walk of the night and moving to third on Anthony Smith's single.
Andrew Fie lined out to third base, but with Brendan Duffy at the plate, Barham threw a wild pitch on which Marte scored.
Woodall, who pitched two hitless innings in relief of Hose, got the win (2-2) while Jordan Meaker worked out of a ninth inning jam for his second save.
Meaker was greeted by Dusty Napoleon's leadoff double to left, after which Michael Lissman, Vancouver's cleanup hitter, popped out to first baseman Anthony Smith.
Jason Christian was intentionally walked and Mitchell LeVier was brought on as a pinch-runner for Napoleon. Meaker then fanned Jeremy Barfield, however, then ended the game by getting Dante Love to fly out to Duffy in center.
The Bears got their first run, which ended a string of 12 scoreless innings, in the third when Marte reached on a one-out error, stole second, took third on Smith's groundout to second and scored on Andrew Fie's single to left.
Vancouver had scored its lone run off Hose, who scattered seven hits over six innings while walking four and striking out three. The first-inning tally was unearned, with a two-out error by Fie loading the bases after which Barfield walked.
