Wapato fills spots on City Council
WAPATO -- After being short two members for more than three months, the Wapato City Council has chosen a local high school graduate and a medical clinical worker to fill those posts.
Three months had passed since both Francis Lame Bull and Lloyd Benscoter left the council. The city had not received any interest in the vacated posts until earlier this month.
From a pool of three applicants, council members on Monday night chose Rita Zuniga, an office worker with Mid-Valley Family Medicine in town, and Curtis Bill, a 22-year-old Yakama tribal member who graduated from Wapato's Pace High School.
The third applicant was Frank Jaime, 58, owner of Jaime Auto Repair & Towing at 118 W. Second St.
Both Zuniga and Bill will have to run in the 2009 election if they wish to retain their posts.
Teen music fest at Franklin Park
Want to see some of the Yakima Valley's young talent on display?
Franklin Park will host a teen music celebration Thursday as part of its weekly concerts in the park series. The event, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., will feature teen bands from local middle and high schools.
It's free to both the audience and participants, although the deadline for bands to register already has passed.
For more information, call the parks department at 575-6020.
