Jenkins -- 60 Years

Jesse J. and Lubertha A. Jenkins of Yakima celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 2 during a joint reception with their friends, John and Phonsenette Fant, at the West Valley Fire Department's Training Center. The event was hosted by the Jenkins and Fant families.

Jesse Jenkins and Lubertha Armstrong were married Nov. 8, 1948, in St. Joseph, La. They are longtime area residents.

Mr. Jenkins is a retired carpenter. Mrs. Jenkins worked at Del Monte and is a homemaker.

The couple had 10 children, Charles Jenkins of Richmond, Calif., Claudia Phillips, Jesse Jenkins, Henry Jenkins, Melvin Jenkins, Dale Jenkins and Aaron Jenkins, all of Seattle, Karen L. Krause of Yakima, Nancy Harmon of Jacksonville, Fla., and the late LaJoy Jenkins. They also have 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Liebrecht -- 60 Years

Ted and Helen Liebrecht of Wapato celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 16 with a dinner hosted by their family.

Ted Liebrecht and Helen Rossol were married Aug. 17, 1948, in Montana. They have lived in the area 51 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Liebrecht are retired.

The couple had three children, Carol Hill of Springfield, Ore., Rose Foster of Wapato and the late Larry Liebrecht. They also have four children and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Poole -- 60 Years

Clarence and Elaine Poole of Yakima will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 28 with a dinner at the Apple Tree Golf Course and Resort.

Clarence Poole and Elaine Shelton were married Aug. 28, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Yakima. Mr. Poole is a lifelong resident and Mrs. Poole has lived in the area 65 years.

Mr. Poole served in the Navy and retired from Northwest Bell after 29 years. Mrs. Poole retired from Snokist after 45 years.

The couple has one child, Rebecca Matson of Yakima. They also have one grandson.

 

Smith -- 50 Years

Lanny and Juanita Smith of Yakima celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 16 with a small gathering of family and friends at Selah Wixon Park. The event was hosted by their children.

Lanny Smith and Juanita Parish were married Aug. 4, 1958, in Yakima. They have lived in the area 45 years.

Mr. Smith retired from research and development at Western RV. Mrs. Smith is a retired line supervisor at Snokist Cannery.

The couple has four children, Cindi Contreras of Yakima, Tony Smith of Portland, and Scott Smith and Kim Lowe, both of Selah. They also have eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

Fant -- 60 Years

Johnnie Lee and Phonsenette Fant of Yakima celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 2 during a joint reception with their friends, Jesse and Lubertha Jenkins, at the West Valley Fire Department's Training Center. The event was hosted by the Fant and Jenkins families.

Johnnie Lee Fant and Phonsenette Woods were married Nov. 1, 1948, in Tacoma. They have lived in the area 55 years.

Mr. Fant is a retired heavy equipment operator. Mrs. Fant is a retired school counselor.

The couple has four children, Patricia Cheatham, Alesia Fant and Denise Fant, all of Yakima, and Johnnie Lee Fant Jr. of Salem, Ore. They also have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

Nelson -- 50 Years

Jerry and Nancy Nelson of Toppenish celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise to Alaska in June. They will also celebrate during a family dinner tonight.

Jerry Nelson and Nancy Morford were married Aug. 15, 1958, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Mr. Nelson works for John I. Haas. Mrs. Nelson retired from the Wapato School District.

The couple has three children, Roger Nelson of Toppenish, Theresa Gonzalez of White Swan and Shelly Faucher of Kennewick. They also have eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

Robert -- 50 Years

Louis and Marilyn Robert of Yakima celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during a cruise to Alaska with their children and families.

Louis Robert and Marilyn Collingwood were married Aug. 18, 1958, in Waitsburg, Wash. They have lived in the area 36 years.

Mr. Robert is a retired environmental health specialist. Mrs. Robert is a retired teacher.

The couple has five children, David Robert of Seattle, Mark Robert of Mullica Hill, N.J., Michele Renteria of Puyallup, Wash., John Robert of Eugene, Ore., and Suza Schillereff of Spokane. They also have 11 grandchildren.

 

teVelde -- 50 Years

Herman and Sharon teVelde of Sunnyside will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 27 with a dinner at Snipes Restaurant for family and friends. The event will be hosted by their children.

Herman teVelde and Sharon Schoo were married Aug. 27, 1958, in Bellflower, Calif. They have lived in the area 30 years.

Mr. teVelde retired after 30 years as a dairyman. Mrs. teVelde is a homemaker.

The couple has three children, Reneé Doblestein of Puyallup, Wash., Kim Haak of Yakima and Jon teVelde of El Paso, Texas. They also have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

Liebert -- 50 Years

Marvin and Gladys Liebert of Yakima celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Marvin Liebert and Gladys Thurber were married Aug. 9, 1958.

The couple has two children, Jeanette Ward of Kennewick and Robert Liebert of Yakima. They also have two grandchildren.

 

Arnett -- 40 Years

Malcolm and Maurine Arnett of Yakima are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today. They also plan to celebrate during a cruise in January.

Malcolm Arnett and Maurine Green were married Aug. 17, 1968, in Kansas City, Kan. They have lived in the area 20 years.

Mr. Arnett is a real estate agent with John L. Scott and retired from the YMCA. Mrs. Arnett is an administrative assistant with the YMCA.

The couple has three children, Amy Morin of Warner Robins, Ga., and Allison Arnett and Jennifer Arnett, both of Yakima. They also have five grandchildren.

 

Sills -- 30 Years

Robin and Debbie Sills of Yakima celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with a beach vacation in Seaside, Ore. They also plan to celebrate attending the Brooks & Dunn, Rodney Atkins and ZZ Top concert.

Robin Sills and Debbie Worley were married Aug. 18, 1978, at Ahtanum Pioneer Church. They have lived in the area more than 50 years.

Mr. Sills is a custodian for West Valley Middle School. Mrs. Sills is a surgical technician.

The couple has one daughter, Amanda Sills of Yakima.

 

Huard -- 30 Years

Richard and Kimberly Huard of Yakima celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with a trip to Hawaii in May and a trip to Las Vegas on their anniversary.

Richard Huard and Kimberly Strader were married Aug. 12, 1978, in Yakima. They have lived in the area 50 years.

Mr. Huard is a store manager for Orange Julius. Mrs. Huard is a transcription supervisor at Yakima Heart Center.

The couple has three children, Heather Ramirez of Auburn, Wash., and Casey Huard and Tiffany Huard, both of Yakima. They also have five grandchildren.

 

Barlow -- 25 Years

Mark and Laurie Barlow of Yakima will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

Mark Barlow and Laurie Lovell were married Aug. 20, 1983, in Yakima. They are lifelong area residents.

Mr. and Mrs. Barlow are self-employed.

The couple has three children, Emily Barlow and Andrew Barlow, both of Yakima, and Jason Barlow of California. They also have two grandchildren.

 

Stevens -- 25 Years

Kenneth and Debra Stevens of Yakima will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this fall with a trip to Hawaii.

Kenneth Stevens and Debra Chambard were married Aug. 20, 1983, at Memorial Bible Church. They have lived in the area 30 years.

Mr. Stevens is a biomedical technician at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center. Mrs. Stevens is a medical transcriptionist at Medical Center Lab.

The couple has two children, Ryan Stevens of Ellensburg and Tasha Stevens of Yakima.
