Notes
WAIT AND SEE FOR DUFFY: Bears outfielder Brendan Duffy, who left Tuesday night's game with an injury to his right (non-throwing) wrist, was still listed as day-to-day and was not in the lineup Wednesday night.
Duffy injured the wrist making a diving attempt to catch a drive by Everett's Nate Tenbrink in the seventh inning. He said Wednesday that he bent the wrist backward.
His condition and playing status depend on the results of an X-ray.
Duffy, a 41st-round draft choice from Oral Roberts, had recovered from a slow start to hit .246 with a .411 on-base percentage, 13 stolen bases and is one of the team's best defensive players.
SCOUTING THE BABY M'S: Yakima fans will not get to see one of Everett's best players during the AquaSox' lone visit here.
Outfielder Dennis Raben, a second-round draft pick last June from the Universisty of Miami, has been sidelined by a sprained finger. The left-handed hitter is batting .291 with five homers and 13 runs batted in in 23 games.
Among other standouts on the Seattle Mariners' affiliate's roster are center fielder Tyson Gillies, a 19-year-old from Kamloops, British Columbia, who might be the fastest player in the league. A solid fielder with a strong arm, Gillies began play Wednesday hitting .298 with 11 doubles and 23 walks and had an on-base percentage of .403. He also had stolen 18 bases.
Shortstop Anthony Phillips is an 18-year-old who's learning to switch hit (.223) and is solid afield, and third baseman Jharmidy DeJesus, who will soon turn 19, was recently promoted from Peoria where he was hitting .339.
Seventh-round draftee Nate Tenbrink, a first baseman from Kansas State, has hit five homers and has driven in 21 runs, but began Wednesday hitting .209.
And Ryan Royster, an outfielder from UC Davis, is the nephew of former big leaguer and the first modern-era Bears manager Jerry Royster.
